Items that cannot be transferred onto are either supplied without the polymer sublimation coating applied or are fabrics that are made from natural fibres such as Cotton – cotton is a natural fibre. It contains no polyester and so has nothing for the sublimation ink to bond to.

Sublimation transfer printing is best suited to white or pale pastel colours. Printing on not too dark or black fabrics will yield poor visibility of the design. The rule of thumb here is: if the ink is darker than the fabric, then it will be visible, e.g. black ink transferred onto a yellow fabric.
